USS Hornet (CV-12): May 1, 1944
At 1423 a VB landed with a 100 lb. bomb, which fell off on deck and exploded. A hole was blown through the flight deck, structural damage was also done in Squadron Workshop No. 4, Squadroom Armory No. 4 and in the 20mm battery. A small electrical fire was started in No. 4 Squadron Armory but was extinguished immediately.
